It’s been a while since I’ve written anything on the Internet. The occasional Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn post, notwithstanding of course. Nor would I call myself a prolific writer by any means, although I will admit to having published quite a bit on my Xanga in the 2000’s. Some of you may need to google Xanga, but its heyday was, if I had to peg it, around 2002 through 2008.
Nothing since, at least for me, has recreated the magic of Xanga — part social media, part blog. Coincidentally, the decline of Xanga mirrored the rise of social media platforms that started to compete beyond letters and words.
What I foresee with this substack is to offer my thoughts, voice, and perspective on topical themes that I care about and have had life experience with. I may or may not be always right, but I’m always up for dialogue and to learn from others in a respectful and civil way.
In non-priority order, here is a sampling of what I’ll plan to tackle:
Reflections on corporate life and musings on financial services, e-commerce, and retail
Traversing life here in the US and abroad as a Taiwanese-American citizen
Health is wealth — in particular, mental health
Building wealth, taking risks, entrepreneurship
The benefits of a classical education
Parenting, parenting, parenting
Books I’m reading
Ideas I’m chewing on
General life updates
I get that this is a bit of a scattershot and over time I may hone in. I know I may get some criticism of not selecting and doubling down on a niche, but I’m being purposeful about being broad. I think that’s a reality of being human — we’re multi-faceted.
Lastly, publishing here may, in all honestly, be more beneficial for me than the end-reader. This is due to the way I process and I suspect for many others as well — writing is my much needed means to process and distill the internal in a way that is approachably articulate.
Leaving it here with this to round out today. Both you and I will start see what I think when I start to write it down.
